Do You Need to Know How to Read Tire Sizes?

Knowledge is power when it comes to learning all that you can about your vehicle. Your tires, for example, provides you with lots of relevant information on the sidewall. To put this information to good use, all you have to do is learn and understand what your tires have already been telling you.

The size of a tire is listed on its side. It will look something like this: P275/65 R 18. The size is telling you a number of things. Firstly, the P means that the tire is designed for a passenger vehicle. The 275 is the width of the tire in millimetres and the 65 means that the height of the sidewall is 65% of the width. Finally, the R states the tire type, radial, and the 18 is the diameter of the wheel.
