How to Test Your Car's Battery for Trouble

Testing a car battery is easy if you know how and have a few key pieces of equipment.

To start, you'll need a pair of good gloves, safety glasses, voltmeter, and wire brush. Never work on the car battery with car running or the car lights still on. Clean the battery terminals of any signs of corrosion with the wire brush or terminal cleaning tool.

The voltmeter is simple to operate, simply place the red cable to the positive side of your car battery, then the black cable to the negative end of the car battery. The meter will read 12.4 when the battery is still holding a good charge. If the reading falls in the 12.2 range or less, then the battery may not be able to hold a charge any longer.

Bring the car to our service center at Audi North Orlando and we can further inspect the battery for any issues and offer a compatible replacement.
